Resumen

The protection and control equipment of a power system is easy to overlook, tucked away in substation cabinets and rarely noticed until something goes wrong, yet it is precisely this equipment that decides whether a fault becomes a contained, momentary event or cascades into a blackout affecting millions. Managing the integrity of these assets has traditionally been treated as an engineering reliability problem, but that framing has become too narrow, because modern protection and control equipment is digital, networked, operated by people under pressure, and expensive to own over its full life, so its integrity now depends on reliability, cybersecurity, human factors, and lifecycle economics together. This paper proposes a multi-criteria, risk-informed asset integrity framework for power system protection and control equipment that deliberately bridges these four dimensions rather than treating them in isolation....
