De la agenda-setting clásica a los sistemas mediáticos híbridos

Resumen

Durante buena parte del siglo XX, la filosofía de la comunicación asumió como marco explicativo general la teoría de la agenda setting formulada por McCombs y Shaw, según la cual los medios de comunicación de masas desempeñan un papel decisivo en la manera en que la ciudadanía percibe y ordena la realidad social. La aparición de Internet y, especialmente, de las redes sociales ha alterado profundamente ese esquema: los medios tradicionales ya no actúan únicamente como fuentes que determinan los asuntos relevantes, sino que atienden de forma creciente a los temas, controversias y tendencias que emergen en las plataformas digitales. A partir de este cambio, el artículo plantea la conveniencia de una filosofía de la comunicación adaptada a un marco tecnológico y social distinto, capaz de revisar los mecanismos mediante los cuales se construye hoy la agenda pública. A esta reformulación del proceso la denominamos agenda setting 2.0.
