Abstract

Digital evidence plays a crucial role in modern forensic investigations and legal proceedings, making its secure storage, integrity verification, and traceability essential. Traditional evidence management systems often rely on centralized storage, which is vulnerable to unauthorized modifications, accidental data loss, and difficulties in maintaining a reliable chain of custody. This paper presents a Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS) developed using the Django framework to provide secure evidence handling through cryptographic integrity verification. The proposed system enables users to register, upload digital evidence, and verify file authenticity using the SHA-256 cryptographic hashing algorithm. Each uploaded file is assigned a unique hash value that serves as its digital fingerprint and is stored along with metadata such as the uploader's information, filename, upload timestamp, and hash key.
