In the 21st century, cutting-edge technology has shaped the ecosystems in which contemporary societies live; this raises a key question: how does technological hypermediation impact sustainable development? In this regard, this mixed, non-experimental documentary analysis aims to analyze the impact of technological immersion in Singapore through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the utopian and dystopian concepts formulated by Orwell and Jameson, and official documentation from the Smart Nation initiative and the United Nations (UN) in order to understand whether technological hypermediation is positive or negative for the development of cities. The findings show that IoT networks and automated transportation systems contribute to energy efficiency and social inclusion, although regulatory challenges remain. In conclusion, the city is emerging as an epicenter of progress, without yet constituting an urban utopia.
