The objective of this study is to identify and characterize ecological fragments and their potential connections within the urban space of Porlamar-Pampatar, Venezuela, through the application of the EcoConnect-URB Index. This index integrates territorial, ecological, and social variables to identify ecological corridors that contribute to addressing ecological fragmentation, urban pressure, and climate vulnerability. Porlamar-Pampatar is an urban conurbation with a lack of effective planning, which impacts coastal vegetation and ecosystems, resulting in the loss of local ecology. The methodology for identifying, assessing, and prioritizing ecological corridors consisted of four phases: integrated ecological-territorial diagnosis, ecological connectivity modeling, participatory socio-ecological analysis, and calculation of the EcoConnect-URB Index. The results identified four corridors with distinct levels of environmental, functional, and social performance, with the potential to create a network of green spaces. The index is a replicable technical tool for mid-scale cities with a view to making them more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.
