Rural Tourism Comunitary and Local Development in the Amantani Island

Abstract

 Amantani Island, in the Puno region of Peru, implemented community-based rural tourism (CRT) to improve local quality of life. The objective: to determine the relationship between residents' level of local development and their perception of the economic impact on the island; year 2024. The quantitative methodology used descriptive and inferential statistics. One hundred and fifty-nine surveys were administered to residents of the 10 communities, and the data processed with SPSS 27 revealed a predominantly favorable perception of the economic benefits of tourism. Pearson's chi-square test demonstrated a statistically significant association between the level of local development and the perception of tourism's economic impact (p < 0.001). It concludes that the economic benefits of tourism are not homogeneous because they are significantly associated with the preexisting level of development of households, suggesting the need for tourism management policies that promote a more equitable distribution of benefits.
