Qualifying the Palette of the Urban Ecosystem of Creativity towards Sustainable Communities

Recognizing creativity as a systemic driver of urban sustainability, this research describes the transition from conventional planning to the Urban Ecosystem of Creativity, a multi-scalar network where human, infrastructural, institutional, and symbolic capitals co-produce social, economic, and environmental value. Through a selective review of recent studies and comparative case analyses, the components of the ecosystem and the dynamics of scaling, co-evolution, and resilience that articulate them are identified. The research maps urban planners, engineers, environmental consultants, heritage experts, economists, and sociologists engaged in open planning, and explains how their alliances with civil society sustain equitable development. It also analyses case studies such as El Campo de Cebada and Luz nas Vielas, artistic initiatives that reveal artists as mediators who translate complex issues into shared narratives and strengthen collective efficacy.
