In 1941, the world of superheroes welcomed Gotham City, a metropolis that has become one of the most iconic fictional locations, to the point of having different representations in the three main entertainment centers: comics, movies, and video games. Even so, there is no single idea of how Batman's city should be portrayed. In that sense, this research aims to analyze the different narrative, visual, and symbolic elements that make up the aesthetics and atmosphere of Gotham City, in order to determine the configuration of its symbolic identity based on Christopher Nolan's trilogy, “The Dark Knight Returns” and “Batman: Year One” comics, and the Arkham saga. The methodology used was oriented toward qualitative research with a descriptive, non-experimental scope, from which qualities and characteristics of Gotham were identified, such as: dark, doomed, lustful, among others.
