The so-called short novels were edited in Spain during the first third of the twentieth century. They soon became a popular and extraordinary successful editorial model. They were published by some of more established writers in the Spanish literary landscape, but they were also used by emerging writers. One of their characteristics was that they were illustrated. These illustrations allow us to witness the text-image relationship and to see a model of editorial design. In this article, we analyze their development through two novels by the same author, but published in different collections and illustrated by various artists.
